Vista Maria advocate pays tribute to Sister Anna

Holly Rundels paid tribute to Sister Anna at Friday night’s Harvest Fest at Vista Maria Insight Youth and Family Connections in Old Redford.
Rundels, a Vista Maria survivor and public advocate who was placed at the all-girls treatment center from 1997-1999, wore a nun’s costume while handing out Halloween candy at the trunk-or-treat event.
“Sister Anna was this older nun who ran the campus,” Rundels said. “She’s no longer with us. She passed (away) but I wanted to uphold her memory. She was actually a very nice person to me.”
The event featured more than 100 adults and children, face painting, and trunk-or-treating with a DJ supplying music beside the Insight building and across from the Redford Theater.
“I’m here to support Holly, the More Than Just Luck podcast and spreading awareness,” said Tiffany, who dressed up as Sister Mary Clarence, the character played by Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act.
Kathy Regan, president and CEO at Vista Maria, was also in attendance on Friday night. In April, 2026, a civil lawsuit filed in Wayne County Circuit Court named six plaintiffs who say they were abused as minors while living at the facility from 2000 to 2025.
“Voices Unmuted” has documented more than 20 stories of physical and sexual abuse at Vista Maria.
Vista Maria released the following statement: “We take matters involving the safety and well-being of youth very seriously, and we will address these claims through the legal process.
“Because of privacy and confidentiality laws, we cannot comment on specific individuals or circumstances.
“We remain fully committed to transparency within the bounds of the law, cooperation with appropriate authorities, and continued support for the youth and families we serve.”
